Zacharia Zeegelaar to Qatar

It was expected that I would be selected as an assistant referee during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the global final round, says the proud 32-year-old Surinamese referee Zacharia Zeegelaar. When I heard that I had been selected I was emotional and relieved. A whole process has been done in advance of the selection. In 2019 I was in the selection for the Gold Cup. I entered as an “underdog”. Still, I managed to leave my mark there. And then I went to Brazil for the U17 tournament together with a referee and an assistant referee from El Salvador. I form a trio with these gentlemen.
From that moment on we were told as a trio that we will be followed by the FIFA and are a candidate for Qatar.
In 2021 I also went to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. We did very well in that too. We just missed out on the final. We were tipped as a candidate.

I whistle nationally in 2013 and internationally in 2014. The World Cup is the highlight in my carriere. I think every referee dreams of that.
Before that, we still have to attend 3 seminars. In June in Paraguay, July in Madrid, and November in Doha

Het was te verwachten dat ik geselecteerd zou worden als assistent scheidsrechter tijdens het WK 2022 in Qatar, de mondiale eindronde, zegt de trotse 32-jarige Surinaamse scheidsrechter Zacharia Zeegelaar. Toen ik hoorde dat ik geselecteerd was was ik emotioneel en opgelucht. Aan de selectie is er een heel proces aan vooraf gedaan. In 2019 zat ik bij de selectie van de Gold Cup. Ik kwam daar binnen als Underdog. Toch heb ik daar mijn stempel weten de drukken. En ben daarna naar Brazilië gegaan met het toernooi van de U17 samen met een referee en een assistent referee uit El Salvador. Met deze heren vorm ik een trio.

Vanaf dat moment kregen we als trio te horen dat we gevolgd zullen worden door de FiFa en  kandidaat zijn voor Qatar.

In 2021 ben ik ook naar Olympische Spelen in Tokyo geweest. Ook daat hebben we het heel goed gedaan.  De finale hebben we op een haar na gemist. We waren getipt als kandidaat.

Ik fluit vanaf 2013 nationaal en vanaf 2014 Internationaal. Het Wereld Kampioenschap wordt mijn hoogte punt. Ik denk dat iedere scheidrechter daarvan droomt.

Voor het zover is moeten we wel nog 3 seminars volgen. In Juni in Paraguay, In Juli in Madrid en In November in Doha.
